In March 2016, the Animal Rescue Team, located in California, rescued an injured coyote. When the coyote was found, she had been shot in the head, the bullet penetrated her frontal lobe and left her blind. After that, the rescuers believe she lost her footing and fell 30-feet into a large dried-out riverbed. The poor girl was dehydrated and starving.
The team thinks that she ingested rat poison and had to perform CPR while they drove her to the vet. Although she was on the brink of death, the staff at the Animal Rescue Team found four tiny cubs in the cage with her!
Despite enduring all that suffering and pain, she still managed to give birth to four healthy babies!
The original plan was to let her regain her strength and send her to a wildlife sanctuary where she could live out her life in peace. Being blind she would be unable to survive alone in the wild.
However, her pups were to be released into the wild once they were old enough.
