Lillie the St. Bernard is a very large dog, but she still gets scared sometimes. One of Lillie’s biggest fears is going to the groomer. Lillie’s dad has tried everything to try and ease her fears.
“I have to have a big treat in front of my face to follow me in or she literally will not go through the front door,” Lee Asher, Lillie’s dad said. “She’s very strong.”
Lillie is so terrified that even the promise of treats she won’t get up in the groomer’s table.
On one recent visit, her dad decided to take off his shirt, jump up on the table and get groomed right alongside her.
Asher had the groomer “groom” him in between trying to groom Lillie in order to try and make Lillie feel more comfortable…
…and it actually worked. Lillie then realized that it wasn’t scary after all, and relaxed a little while the groomer did his thing.
“She started playing a bit and gave me a kiss which was like a, ‘Hey, thanks for coming up here,’” Asher said.
The groomer couldn’t believe what Asher was doing and couldn’t stop laughing and staring…
…but Asher didn’t care because he was willing to do whatever it took to make sure Lillie was feeling safe, and Lillie was clearly so grateful that he did.
“Oh man, they were all in shock,” Asher said. “Even the other dogs there were looking at me like I was crazy. They were also looking at Lillie like they were jealous though.”
