When Austin Stonnell lived in Bozeman, Montana, he witnessed a breathtaking spectacle only one block from his house. When he was driving home from work, Stonnell spotted a male elk with large antlers in a field. He wanted to capture the majestic animal on film, so Stonnell ran into his house, grabbed his camera, and returned to the same spot. When he got back there were now hundreds of elk making their way across the field and into the road. “I tried thinking of a way to help it,” he says, “but there’s not much you can do. I didn’t want to get clobbered.”
