Have you ever heard of the Nicobar pigeon? It’s the closest living relative to the extinct flightless Dodo bird, and it’s absolutely stunning.
Although they’re relatives, the Nicobar pigeon doesn’t look anything like the Dodo bird. One of their differences is the Nicobar’s luminous colors. The Nicobar has reddish legs, a white tail, and is covered in blue, copper, and green feathers. The reason for the birds’ colorful characteristics is their location, the coastal regions of the Nicobar Islands. There are no natural predators that the birds would need to conceal themselves from. According to the IUCN, the Nicobar pigeon is considered “near threatened”.
