Penny the puppy, was rescued after being dumped in the woods by her previous owner. The sick 3-month-old canine was then taken to animal control, who then brought her to the veterinary hospital where Imgur user AlexBoBalex works.
The poor puppy was suffering from demodectic mange as well as a secondary infection. The infections caused her fur to fall out and her skin to be raw, scabbed, and swollen. This little puppy was in so much pain that she could barely move.
When Penny first arrived at the hospital, she slept a great a deal of the time. She was exhausted by her illness, and starving. After all, her short life was spent living in the woods.
When Penny got her first toy at the hospital, she was too weak to play with it, but she wagged her tail and snuggled right up to the stuffed blue elephant!
She eventually regained enough strength to begin getting up and walking around. She continued to eat very defensively at every meal as if she had no idea when the next one might come.
Because Penny was on several antibiotics, and a combination of medicine, with time, and proper nutrition, her infections began to clear up. Soon she was putting on weight, and her fur began to grow back!
Once her health improved, so did her mood. It was not long before Penny was behaving like a normal, rambunctious puppy!
Alex had been documenting Penny’s recovery from the time she was brought in. As soon as Penny was healthy enough to leave the hospital, Alex and her boyfriend decided to adopt the young canine!
When they first brought Penny home, the puppy had no idea how to react. She was not used to a calm environment with so many toys!
She hit it off with her new sister, and pretty soon she realized that her life was going to be much better and more relaxed from then on.
Once Penny got used to her new home and life, they began to take her hiking and spending time outdoors! Penny is a huge fan of the outdoors!
The resilient pup still has her very first toy, the blue elephant, but has managed to put her traumatic past behind her.
In less than one year after her initial rescue, Penny has transformed into a beautiful, healthy dog! It just goes to show that with a little love and proper care, even the most neglected animals can survive!
Penny’s recovery is miraculous!
