James Isaac is a 9 years old boy with autism and can’t speak or likes to be touched. But no worries,he had Mahe, an assistance dog that is devoted and will not leave his side!
Mahe went with James to get an MRI scan to diagnose his seizures, he was allowed to lay beside him in the hospital bed!
As they put James under anesthesia, Mahe stared into his eyes and made him calm and relaxed for the doctor.
“He was just looking at James, and looking really worried,” Michelle Isaac, James’s mom, told Stuff.co.nz.
Mahe has been in Jame’s life more more than two and half years now and is apart of his routine outings.
Maher was trained by Assistance Dogs New Zealand Trust to keep James from wondering off and being harmed or hurt.
He keeps James calm when they’re out in public, where he once was very anxious and fearful.
Wendy Isaccs how works For Assistance Dogs New Zealand Trust expalins, “There is such a magic that happens between a child with autism and the dogs, they just calm the kids down. The kids will maintain eye contact with the dog, but often not with their own parents and siblings.”
