Jeff Longo, from Florida, was walking along one hot summer day and noticed a tiny little animal on the path in front of him. It turned out to be a newborn squirrel, still blind, just 3 centimetres long. Jeff realised that he couldn’t just leave it to die on the hot pavement. He took the little animal home to care for it. Jeff named it ’Biscuits’.
Many people told Jeff he didn’t stand a chance of keeping Biscuits alive — he knew nothing about animals. But his faith, patience and care meant Biscuits not only survived but became Jeff’s best friend.
When Jeff found the squirrel, it was just 3 centimetres long.
Jeff wasn’t even sure what kind of animal he’d found.
People told him that this helpless little creature wouldn’t make it.
But Jeff was determined — and so was Biscuits.
The animal grew and opened its eyes for the first time.
She loved lying on her carer’s stomach.
Biscuits was accepted by everyone in the family.
Jeff kept it warm and fed it.
Then she received her own special place in the house.
…with all kinds of toys.
Biscuits is a very happy animal, who loves playing hide and seek.
She’s very attached to Jeff.
She loves hiding in his pocket.
What was a helpless baby became a beautiful, healthy full-grown animal.
Just look at her eyes and tail!
Jeff uploaded a few videos of his new friend to YouTube. Here she can be seen eating a nut — and nothing’s going to distract her from it!
