We are pretty sure you’ve heard of aardvarks, and you’ve heard of wolves… but have you ever heard of aardwolves?
This not some imaginary creature we made up. The aardwolf is very real and incredibly cute!
The aardwolf is actually not a wolf.
They are the only surviving species in their family, and are more closely related to hyenas.
They eat insects and termites.
The grow to the size of a fox.
They were thought to be solitary animals but we have learned they are family oriented.
They mate and commit to their family!
They are shy and nocturnal, sleeping in burrows during the day.
Aardwolves communicate with each other by using their noises, called chirps.
They have a fierce howl and bark to ward off predators.
They are very capable to find for themselves!
Unlike the hyena, they are not very fast.
They are seriously adorable little creatures!
And you can’t miss those ears!
Farmers had wrongly believed they prayed on their livestock.
When these creatures helped the farmers by feeding on the terminates that are harmful to their crops.
Aardwolves do not need speed when you are this adorable! They may be the most adorable creatures most people don’t know even exist.
